Blue Highway closes its Micanopy restaurant for one week after employee tests positive for COVID-19

The Blue Highway Pizzeria, a popular restaurant in Alachua County with two locations in Micanopy and Jonesville, released the following statement on its Facebook page after announcing one of their employees had tested positive for COVID-19:

“After talking with our team, we decided to close for the week in Micanopy. This way we can await test results for those who have not received them. We plan to reopen Wednesday, July 22nd.

We have some news to share with you because we believe that transparency is crucial during this time. We had a scare last week because a member of our team was sick. We asked them to quarantine and get tested and made it mandatory for everyone at both restaurants to get tested as well. The team member who was sick tested negative, but one of our part-time team members in Micanopy did test positive.

They were tested on Friday and got their results today. They worked on Friday and Sunday the previous week. They are completely asymptomatic and no one else is feeling sick or showing any symptoms. We have been conducting daily temperature checks and health screenings. This team member did all the right things and was extremely careful in their personal life and at work. We believe we have done all the right things and taken every step possible to limit our risk of exposure, including keeping our dining room closed.

We have signs posted asking guests to wear masks, even if they are outside at the take-out window; some do, many don’t. This will now be a requirement. We are taking every precaution to keep our guests and team safe. Here are the steps we are taking.

-We are closing the Micanopy location today to thoroughly disinfect all surfaces and to make a decision on how to move forward in a way that protects the safety of our team and guests.

-Our team member who tested positive will be paid for their missed hours and will stay home until they test negative

-We will continue to screen our team for health and temperature

-We will continue to conduct hourly cleaning of high touch surfaces

-We will continue to follow CDC guidelines

-We will continue to remain socially distant and wear masks at work and in our personal lives

We appreciate your support and understanding and will keep you up to date with news as we hear it.”
