A year ago, the national average of price per gallon of regular unleaded gas was $2.89 according to AAA.
Today, that average has plunged to $1.792 in the U.S. and $1.796 for the average in Florida.
Mainstreet Daily News hit the road to see how gas prices compared throughout Alachua County.
And, while the City of Gainesville still remains the highest region in Florida, it is starting to fall in line.
The Shell gas station at I-75 and 39th Avenue reports regular unleaded at $1.99 on April 23.
That same date proved for a range of prices between Gainesville and rural communities.
Love’s Travel Stop on US 301 in Hawthorne reports regular unleaded at $1.75 per gallon, while Chevron in Archer reports $1.99 per gallon.
The Marathon gas station in Newberry’s $2.04 per gallon proved to be 26 cents more than gas selling just 10 minutes north in High Springs at the Sunoco adjacent to Bev’s Better Burgers drive thru which came in low at $1.78 per gallon.
