FHP detains man in Columbia County for Miami murder

A Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Officer detained a Gibsonton man early Thursday morning on I-10 in Columbia County for a warrant in connection with a Miami-Dade County homicide.

According to FHP, trooper P. G. Payne was driving west on I-10 near mile marker 312 when he spotted a man running east along the shoulder. A Mini Cooper with its hazard lights was stopped further down the interstate, so Payne pulled over to check out the problem.

Payne began talking with the man, who was acting erratically, to figure out what was happening.

After running a check on the license and tag, Payne learned the man was Miguel Hernandez, 45, and that both Hernandez and the 2011 Mini Cooper were connected to a Miami-Dade homicide.

Payne took Hernandez into custody and booked him at the Columbia County Jail for a first degree murder and first degree attempted murder warrant.
