A Gainesville teenager was found with multiple gunshot wounds in Maude Lewis Park in downtown Alachua Sunday.

Alachua Police Department (APD) officers responded to a reported person shot at 1:45 p.m. and found Stoney Shine Jr., 16, of Gainesville suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to an APD release.

Emergency responders transported Shine to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville where he died from his injuries.

An APD investigation revealed that Shine, 19-year-old Adrian Cushion, and multiple other subjects were involved in a physical altercation in the park. During the altercation, Shine reportedly walked away and retrieved a firearm. Shine returned to the crowd when Cushion, who also had a firearm, allegedly shot Shine multiple times.

Cushion was apprehended a short time later and arrested.

APD said this is on-going investigation and further information will be released as it becomes available.

This is the second homicide in Alachua in the past month. On Oct. 10, Kionne Atkins, 19, of Gainesville was shot at a late-night block party located outside the entrance to Copeland Park.
