Alachua County and Gainesville governments announce holiday schedules

Alachua County and the City of Gainesville announced their Thanksgiving holiday schedules:

Alachua County

Other than emergency services, all Alachua County government offices will be closed on December 24, December 25, 2020, and January 1, 2021, in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Holidays.

Curbside Waste Collection/Collection Centers

Due to the observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays on Friday, December 25, and January 1, residential curbside collection service for solid waste, recycling and yard trash will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week following each holiday. The regular schedule for these services will resume the following week. 

Holiday Closures for Alachua County Solid Waste Facilities:

  • Administrative and Waste Collection Offices – closed December 24, 25, and January 1
  • Rural Collection Centers – closed December 25 and January 1
  • Leveda Brown Environmental Park & Transfer Station – closed December 25 and January 1
  • Hazardous Waste Collection Center – closed December 25 and January 1

Animal Services

Animal Services will be closed on December 24, 25, and January 1. All other days, offices will be open regular hours.

Animal Services Officers respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays, to matters affecting public safety and animals in immediate danger. Citizens should dial 911 to report such emergencies on Sundays, holidays, and between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. nightly. During regular hours (Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding holidays), Alachua County Animal Services can be reached at 352-264-6870.

Shelter hours are Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Call 352-264-6870 for appointments).

Clerk of the Court

The Office of the Clerk of the Court will be closed December 24, 25, and January 1. All other days, offices will be open regular hours. Visit the Clerk of the Court website for a list of services that are currently available online, drive-thru, or by appointment only.

Property Appraiser

The Property Appraiser’s Office will be closed December 24, 25, and January 1. All other days, offices will be open regular hours. Visiting the Property Appraiser’s Office is currently by appointment only. Visit the Property Appraiser website to make an appointment.

The Tax Collector’s Office will be closed December 24, 25, and January 1. All other days, offices will be open regular hours. Visiting the Tax Collector’s Office is currently by appointment only. Visit the Tax Collector website to make an appointment.

Supervisor of Elections

The Supervisor of Elections Office will be closed December 24, 25, and January 1. All other days, offices will be open regular hours.

Health Department

The Health Department will be closed December 24, 25, and January 1. All other days, offices will be open regular hours (Hours vary depending on services needed.).

City of Gainesville

In observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays, city offices will be closed Thursday, Dec. 24, Friday, Dec. 25 and Friday, Jan. 1. 

RTS bus service

The Regional Transit System (RTS) is providing reduced service on Dec. 23, Dec. 26-31 and Jan. 2-10. Reduced service is indicated on RTS route time scheduleswith an “R” in the far right column under each route direction column section. The “R” indicates buses that continue to run during RTS reduced service days.

RTS is providing holiday service Dec. 24 and Jan. 1, which runs between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., on routes 1, 2, 5, 8, 10, 13, 15, 16, 20, 26, 35, 43, 75 and 711. There is no service on Dec. 25. Please visit www.go-rts.com for more information. 

Curbside collection

Residential curbside collection for garbage, recycling and yard trash will not be affected by the holidays, as collection does not regularly occur on Fridays.
