Updating Breaking News: Gainesville police arrest double homicide suspect

Officers from the Gainesville Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls of  shots fired at the 2900 block of NE 17th Drive on Friday.

According to the GPD news release, after arriving to the scene, officers confronted the still-armed shooter, Kivi J. Ellis, 26, who then threw his firearm to the side and surrendered.

Gainesville police arrested Kivi Ellis, 26, for allegedly shooting an adult female, and a three-month-old infant.

Subsequent investigation revealed an adult female victim deceased on scene with multiple gunshot wounds and a three month old victim, also deceased with a gunshot wound to the head. A third victim, a nearby neighbor, was also shot at, but not struck. Two other children (ages 3 and 5) were found hiding inside the house underneath a bed.

Ellis was transported to GPD for an interview and later to the Alachua County Jail via Jail Van. Ellis is charged with two counts of  homicide and 1 count of attempted homicide.
