BOCC to address roads, COVID at Tuesday meeting

The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners will tackle a full agenda Tuesday, starting with filling appointments to the Rural Concerns Advisory Committee and ending with a public hearing for a small scale land use amendment.

The BOCC will also revisit county’s emergency order, which requires face masks be worn inside at public places and business. The current mandate exempts “internal operations or policies of local governments within the County, the Alachua County Public Schools, local Charter Schools established by law, the State University System, State College System, the State of Florida, or federal agencies who are encouraged to adopt their own rules and procedures regarding the matters set forth herein.”

Last week, the BOCC asked Santa Fe College and the University of Florida to mandate face masks on campus, but they declined, saying they did not have the authority to do it. This week, the BOCC will consider mandating them anyway.

The Kercher Group will give a presentation about a pavement management system, which involves “the directing of the various activities involved in providing and sustaining pavements in a condition acceptable to the traveling public at the least life cycle cost.”

The staff recommendation is an annual investment of $15 million starting in fiscal year 2023 and a subsequent increase of at least 4 percent annually.

The regular meeting will begin at 11 a.m. at the Alachua County Administration Building (12 SE 1st Street). It will be followed by a special budget meeting at 5 p.m.
