Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued an executive order this afternoon closing all restaurant dining areas and gyms in the state in order to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Restaurants will still be allowed to sell take-out orders and will also be allowed to sell alcohol for take-out or delivery with a food order.
The executive order is effective immediately and expires whenever the current state of emergency ends.
The latest executive order came in a week that saw much of Florida shut down.
First it was bars and nightclubs, and now restaurants and gyms. Even public beaches are now off limits in many parts of the state as the number of coronavirus cases in Florida went above 500 Friday.
DeSantis began the week issuing an executive order to close all bars and nightclubs in the state to prevent the spread of coronavirus, and he ended it Friday with the order closing restaurants and gyms.
The whirlwind of closures mirrors what is happening across the country as government leaders seek to contain the virus before sick patients overwhelm their respective health care systems.
