FDOH reports COVID-19 new case positivity rate of 10.4 percent

 A day after Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried stated that Florida Gov. Ron Desantis “has lost control of Florida’s COVID-19 response,” the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) reported a daily virus positivity rate that has doubled since June 13th.

“Test results for more than 25,200 individuals were reported to DOH as of midnight, on Tuesday, June 16, the FDOH June 17th report released on Wednesday said.

“Today, as reported at 11 a.m., there are 2,610 new positive COVID-19 cases (2,548 Florida residents and 62 non-Florida residents), 25 Florida resident deaths related to COVID-19.”

The report states, “A 10.3 percent of new cases tested positive.”

According to the DOH dashboard, there are now 82,719 positive cases reported in Florida.

Alachua County cases are at 580 as of 1 p.m. on June 17th.

Within Alachua County, High Springs reports 13, Archer has less than 5, the City of Newberry where face masks are not being enforced or required as per local executive order defying the Alachua County mandate reports 26, Waldo is at 50, Hawthorne has 8, Micanopy less than 5.

Alachua County’s overall positivity rate continues to decline and is at 1.8 percent as of June 17th at 1:30 p.m.

A record high number of 2,783 Florida positive daily cases were reported on June 16th.
