Florida breaks single-day record for COVID-19 related deaths and hospitalizations

The Florida Department of Health reported 9,230 new cases to the Florida COVID-19 Dashboard, bringing the total positive test count to 441,977 cases as of the July 27th report. That is the third straight day Florida has reported under 10,000 new cases. 

The FDOH also reported 78,956 new tests from Monday. The positivity rate was 11.69% of the total, according to the report. Since July 16th, the positivity rate has stayed below 15%, and most days has been between 10-12%.

Here is a breakdown of the new coronavirus cases reported by the state for the past 10 days:

6,117 people have died from the virus in Florida, an increase of 186, which is the highest report of COVID-19 related fatalities since the pandemic began. The previous high was reported on Thursday with 186.

The FDOH also reports that 9,023 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 as their primary diagnosis as of 11 am.

585 new hospitalizations were reported Monday bringing the total to 24,917 people in Florida that have been hospitalized at some point during the coronavirus pandemic. It is the highest report of hospital admissions related to COVID-19 since the pandemic started. The previous high was set on July 23rd, which was 581.

Gilchrist County is at 324 – up 9 from yesterday
Columbia County is at 2,285  – up 82 from yesterday.
Levy County is at 493 – up 19 from yesterday.
Bradford County is at 240  –  up 4 from yesterday.
 
In Alachua County towns:
 
Alachua/LaCrosse/Worthington Springs 199 – up 6 from yesterday.
Archer 65  – up 3 from yesterday.
Hawthorne  56 – up 3 from yesterday.
High Springs 58 – up 1 from yesterday.
Micanopy 26 – up 1 from yesterday.
Newberry 146 – up 6 from yesterday.
Waldo 9  – no change from yesterday.
