The Locksmith maintains current doors, hardware, and locks and provides guidance regarding matters related to door hardware, locks, and physical security. This position is part of the Carpentry department and assists with light carpentry assignments and duties as needed.

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Repairs, replaces, and installs doors, hardware, and locks at all Santa Fe College locations.
  • Provides recommendations for lock and hardware strategies to project managers, Santa Fe Police Department and members of the college community.
  • Coordinates work orders with contractors, the Lead Locksmith and carpenters.
  • Procures locks, doors, and hardware.
  • Designs key system hierarchy for campus keyway systems and ensures future installation projects are implemented within this system including responsibility for master key system at the commercial and state institutional level.
  • Maintains accurate database for hardware, locks, keys and doors.
  • Works with suppliers and manufacturers for technical support, warranty issues, and training of staff.
  • Ensures ADA and Florida Building Code compliance with hardware, locks and doors.
  • Assists carpentry shop with event setup, roof leaks, window leaks, door maintenance and other light carpentry assignments.
  • Promotes and adheres to all recognized safety practices and standards.
  • Assists other trades as needed.
  • Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Carpentry Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:  A high school diploma or equivalent. Master Keying Certification from a recognized vocational or trade school with two (2) years of related commercial work experience or four (4) years of related work experience (appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience).

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted. Applicants must have a valid Florida Class E Operator (driver’s) license and be authorized to drive for the college.
Preferred: Training related to specific types of locks and exit devices used on campus. Registered locksmith.
