The Gainesville Community Playhouse will host Michael Presley Bobbit’s A Cedar Key Christmas with tickets going on sale Nov. 14th.
When an unprecedented December hurricane threatens to destroy a tiny island community and ruin Christmas, an unlikely superhero intervenes. From the playwright that brought you the smash hits “Florida Man” and “Sunset Village” comes an untraditional holiday tale that challenges us to confront the storms in our own lives head-on, even as it affirms the Christmas spirit in us all.
Held captive by the ghosts of a storied family history, Meshack Lutterloh is desperate to save his friends and neighbors from a massive hurricane racing across the Gulf of Mexico and bearing down on Cedar Key. An untimely concussion sends him into an irrational fugue-state of superhero frenzy. Can he conquer his own internal tempest as he heads into the maelstrom? Will Cedar Key survive? Can Christmas be saved? The answers are waiting in the storm.
A Cedar Key Christmas is Anne Rupp Polo and runs from Dec. 4 to 13 with shows Thursday – Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
According to the playhouse mitigation policy, patrons will be seated in areas that are socially distanced from other parties. Each party will have two seats empty on either side of them, and in front. Row A will be blocked off, due to COVID-19 Studies that state that singing and projecting can produce a larger distance of particulate in the air. Following the conclusion of the performance, once the house lights have come up, house staff will release the audience in groups to assist in social distancing. Patrons will not be allowed to leave their seats until released by house staff.

The High Springs playhouse will host, ‘A Tuna Christmas’ which is the hilarious sequel to ‘Greater Tuna’.
It’s Christmas in the third-smallest town in Texas. Radio station OKKK news personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie report on various Yuletide activities, including the hot competition in the annual lawn-display contest. In other news, voracious Joe Bob Lipsey’s production of A Christmas Carol is jeopardized by unpaid electric bills. Many colorful Tuna denizens, some you will recognize from Greater Tuna and some appearing here for the first time, join in the holiday fun.
