Pup thrown from vehicle during accident near Micanopy reunited with owners

While passing through Micanopy on June 12th, Bobby Schlenz and his fiancée were involved in an accident that totaled their Dodge Ram and propelled their pup Rebel out of a window.

The couple from Beverly Hills, FL came back several times looking for Rebel near the scene of the crash with no luck. They put up posters in the area and offered a $100 reward, but still no Rebel.

Gainesville Pet Finder, a volunteer site that helps reunite pets with owners, started spreading the word to help find the miniature Pinscher.

On June 18th, after several sightings of Rebel and phone calls to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Rebel was located around 5 p.m.

David Reibsome and Deputy Anthony Howard, along with Gainesville Police Department Officer Mary Davis, were able to corral Rebel towards the BP station in Micanopy, the ACSO’s office reported. “Deputy Reibsome called Rebel’s name, and he came right to him. ACSO deputies contacted Schlenz and set up a reunion.”

According to the ACSO, Rebel did not appear to be injured from the rollover accident on June 12th. He survived for five days and stayed in the general vicinity of the crash near the BP station in Micanopy.

Schlenz also wanted to warn people that two scams started after the reward for the dog was posted.

One involved a fake GoFundme account set up by a third party. And another came as a phone call from a person claiming that they had Rebel and wanted to meet up and collect the reward but were asking for a PIN number possibly to transfer money.

“(There are) people who are trying to scam people in need,” they said. “People tried to start a GofundMe page, and somebody called saying they had our dog and wanted a PIN number for the $100 reward.”

The couple said they were upset that someone would try to take advantage of the situation and wanted others to be aware of future scams involving accident victims and GoFundMe accounts.

As for Rebel, they said he has been resting a lot but gained his appetite back and has returned to “aggravating” their other dog again.
