State unveils new specialty license plate designs

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) has announced several redesigned specialty plates available starting this week.

The new plate designs include the NASCAR, the University of Miami and Conserve Wildlife specialty license plates.

“The delivery of these plates to all tax collector offices and license plate agencies across the state is currently underway and is expected to be completed by May 12,” FLHSMV said in a press release.

As of April 1, the state reported 3,360 registrations of the Florida NASCAR specialty plate, which the Florida Legislature first approved in 2007. Plate’s sales revenue goes to Enterprise Florida, Inc., a public-private partnership to promote economic development in Florida.

The University of Miami plate, first authorized in 1989, had almost 27,000 registrations as of April 1. All of that plate’s revenue goes toward the university for academic enhancement, including scholarships.

More than 13,000 Floridians have registered the Conserve Wildlife specialty plate, which the Legislature authorized in 1998. The state distributes plate’s annual revenue to the Wildlife Foundation of Florida, Inc. for programs and activities of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The state has redesigned the Miami and NASCAR plates before, but this is the first refresh for the Conserve Wildlife plate.

The new plates are available at three DMV locations in Gainesville and one in High Springs. A county by county listing of all locations in the state is posted online
