UF Health has announced it will provide an assortment of health assessments, medical and research information and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccinations for a community impact day next week in East Gainesville.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, June 15, at Upper Room Ministries (3575 NE 15th St. 15th Street). The event is hosted by the Florida Central Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction and will include workers from the Alachua County Health Department, the UF Clinical and Translational Science Institute, and UF HealthStreet.
Terrell’s Bar-B-Que will also be on hand to provide a first-come, first-served lunch starting at 11 a.m.
Health workers will provide free assessments and refer patients to free or low-cost medical and social services. Visitors can also learn about clinical trials and research opportunities and participate in hands-on CPR demonstrations.
Dr. Michael Lauzardo, director of UF Health Screen, Test & Protect and deputy director for UF’s Emerging Pathogens Institute, will participate in the event, along with Upper Room Ministries senior pastor Karl Anderson.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as of Thursday 45.8 percent of Alachua County residents are vaccinated—well ahead of vaccination rates for other area counties but short of the 70- to 90-percent rate experts say is needed for herd immunity.
