Two Alachua County Public Schools (ACPS) buses were involved in separate accidents in Gainesville Tuesday morning.

The first incident occurred just after 7 a.m. when, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a school bus entered the intersection of SE 162nd Ave. and US Highway 301. A sedan traveling south on US Highway 301 collided with the bus.

The two people in the sedan—a 19-year-old male driver and an 18-year-old passenger, both from Starke—were taken to the hospital. FHP reported the passenger was in critical condition and the driver was in serious condition.

Fourteen students were on the school bus, but neither the student nor the bus driver were injured.

The second school bus collision occurred later in the morning and involved a semi truck.

“We had a semi traveling northbound on SE 11th and a school bus traveling west on 4th Avenue that collided,” said Graham Glover, GPD public information officer. “Both drivers went to the hospital and are in stable condition.”
