ASO arrests two alleged gang members

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ASO) has announced the arrest of two alleged gang members on numerous charges.

“Sheriff Clovis Watson Jr. wanted to share the following information in regards to his commitment to keep our community safe,” an ASO Facebook post said.

According to the post, last Tuesday, March 23, an ASO deputy stopped a white Chrysler van on Interstate 75 just north of Micanopy for an undisclosed traffic violation. A vehicle search ensued, and deputies found a Bushmaster AR-15 style rifle, Taurus 9mm handgun and drugs. The ASO reported the rifle was modified with a tactical light and magnifying scope.

“Directly next to the firearms were several high capacity rifle magazines, three of which were taped together for quick reloading,” the post said.

Deputies identified the driver as Belvito Galvan via his Florida ID card, and he was driving with a suspended license, the ASO said. The front-seat passenger also had a Florida ID card that identified him as Noe Lopez, 43.

“Both are multi-time convicted felons, registered sex offenders and documented gang members,” the ASO post said.

Deputies booked Galvan and Lopez into the Alachua County Jail on numerous charges, including possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon.
