Ten people, including nine children, died in a 15-vehicle crash in a weekend accident south of Montgomery, Ala., amid Tropical Storm Claudette.
A van belonging to a youth ranch for abused and neglected girls was involved in the crash on rain-soaked Interstate 65. The group was returning from a week at the beach in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Tropical Storm Claudette swept across the Southeast over the weekend with high winds, tornadoes, and flash flooding, which caused three other deaths.
Where is Claudette now? The storm pushed into Georgia and South Carolina on Sunday as meteorologists downgraded it to a tropical depression. But the National Hurricane Center upgraded it again Monday as the storm strengthened.
“Claudette is forecast to move eastward off the North Carolina Coast today and then move northeastward out over the Western Atlantic off the Northeast Coast towards the Canadian Maritimes by Wednesday,” the National Weather Service reported.Â
