The Gainesville Police Department (GPD) has announced the arrest of a Gainesville man on child exploitation charges.
According to a GPD press release, members of the department’s internet crimes against children division and GPD SWAT served a search warrant on Alex McCumber at a mobile home park in northwest Gainesville. Detectives located the 22-year-old for questioning at a mobile home park in northwest Gainesville, where officials say the man lived.
Operating on a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, detectives had obtained account holder information and files indicating McCumber had uploaded and shared child sexual abuse material through Instagram, according to GPD.
“Two files were identified that were determined to be child sexual abuse material, one of a minor prepubescent child,” the press release said.
When detectives questions McCumber about the files, he admitted to sharing and possessing the material in question, GPD said. Detectives then arrested the 22-year-old and seized “numerous electronic devices capable of storing digital media.”
“These devices are still undergoing a comprehensive forensic analysis,” the GPD release said. “McCumber also stated that he had other illegal content which he previously deleted from his cell-phone.”
McCumber is being held in the Alachua County Jail on one count of child pornography distribution and two counts of child pornography possession.
