Breaking News Overnight: Ocala woman and young child die in Marion County crash

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash Friday evening in Marion County.

According to the FHP report, a sedan, driven by a 40-year-old Ocala woman, was traveling west on NW 100 Street, just east of NW 49 Avenue Road in Marion County at a high rate of speed at approximately 7:50 pm Friday.

The vehicle crossed over the center line and entered the eastbound lane, where the driver lost control. The sedan entered the south grass shoulder and struck a large tree with its left side, and was redirected and overturned back across the roadway.

The sedan came to rest on the north grass shoulder on its left side. The driver was partially ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased on the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue.

Two unrestrained young children sustained critical injuries and were transported to Shands UF Hospital, where one child was later pronounced deceased and the other remains in critical care.

The FHP did not release the name of the driver or the passengers.
