The streak ends: Columbia falls to St. Augustine 35-24 in regional final

The Columbia Tigers ended its season tonight with a 35-24 loss to the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets in the 6-A Region 1 Finals in Lake City. 

In a seesaw first half, Columbia got the early lead on a first quarter touchdown, but St. Augustine answered and tied the game 7-7 to start the second quarter. The Tigers retook the lead at 14-7 early in the period, but back-to-back touchdowns by the Yellow Jackets gave them a 21-14 lead at the half.

A 10-point third quarter by the Tigers, paired with a St. Augustine touchdown cut the lead to 28-24 heading into the final period, however the Yellow Jackets added a touchdown in the fourth quarter, and Columbia never got closer.

The loss ended the Tigers five-game winning streak, and a turnaround season that saw them start with an 0-5 record, only to rally and win five straight en route to a regional final appearance. They close with a 5-6 record.
