Updating Breaking News: Fatal two-vehicle crash in Marion County kills Ocala man, injures two others

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash at approximately 2pm this afternoon in Marion County on US-27 near the intersection of 55 Avenue.

According to the FHP report, a pickup truck driven by a 22-year-old Ocala man was traveling westbound on US-27 in the left inside lane. A sports utility vehicle, driven by a 62-year old Ocala man, and also transporting a 65-year-old Ocala man, was traveling eastbound on US-27 in the right outside lane. The pickup’s left front had a tire blow out, and veered off the left side of the roadway and crossed the center median.

The SUV then entered into the eastbound right outside lane. The pickup’s front struck the SUV’s left front.

The pickup came to rest facing in a southeast direction on the south side of the roadway. The SUV came to rest facing in a north direction on the south side of the roadway.

The passenger in the SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup received minor injuries, while the SUV driver received critical injuries, according to the FHP report.

The crash is currently under investigation.

The FHP did not release the name of either driver to the deceased passenger.
