Tonight the Buchholz football team will host Creekside (St. Johns) in a Class 7A-Region 1 Play-in game.  The Bobcats are 6-1 and winners of six in a row, including a 49-27 win at Creekside two weeks ago.  In that game, the Bobcats rushed for 203 yards and finished with 387 yards of total offense.  During their current win streak, the Bobcats are averaging 47.8 points per game.

You can listen to tonight’s game right here on 106.9 “I am Country” and online at IamCountryRadio.com beginning with our pregame coverage at 7 p.m. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

Tonight at 7:30, the Chiefland Indians will travel to Hawthorne for a Class 1A Region 4 Quarterfinal.  The game was scheduled for Friday but due to the threat of Tropical Storm Eta, it was moved up a couple of days, then it was moved back again to tonight.

The key for the Indians will be a ball control offense.  Chiefland, which is averaging 203 yards per game, will try to play keep away from a Hornets’ team that is averaging just under 27 points per game.  Hawthorne enters tonight’s game with a record of 6-2.

Tonight the Bronson football team will host its first state playoff game in school history when the Eagles face the 7-1 Wildwood Wildcats.  Last week, Bronson went on the road and defeated Crescent City, 38-8, in a Class 1A-Region 4 Play-in game.  It was Bronson’s first playoff win in 69 years of football.  The last time the Eagles were in the playoffs was 2002.  First-year Bronson football coach Russell Holley said the key to victory tonight is to slow the Wildcats down and have long drives on offense to control the clock.  He said they will have to keep the game slow and a lower score will help their chances.  Holley also said the Eagles need to control both lines of scrimmage and on defense they will have to contain Wildwood’s quarterback and tackle on first contact.

In other high school football action tonight, Gainesville hosts Mainland (Daytona Beach) at Santa Fe High School (Alachua) in the Class 6A state playoffs.  Santa Fe is on the road at Gadsden County in 4A, while Keystone Heights travels to Bradford.  In Class 1A, Hawthorne hosts Chiefland, Wildwood is at Bronson, Williston is at home against Fort Meade, Union County hosts Bell, and Dixie County travels to 3-time defending 1A state champion Madison County.

St. Francis Catholic canceled their game at Foundation Academy in Class 2A, so the Wolves’ season has come to an end.

“We were contacted by the Health Department mid-morning today. Two students – not on the football team – tested positive for the Covid virus,” said St. Francis Athletic Director David Fallo. ” But because of contact tracing, the Health Department gave us a list of 37 students to send home and quarantine. Nine of these students were football players, half of which are our offensive line, which leaves us without enough healthy bodies to play tonight. Our game will not take place. Foundation Academy and the FHSAA have been notified.”
