Boys Lacrosse: Santa Fe pounds Gainesville 21-4

Last night at Citizen’s Field, the Santa Fe boys lacrosse team defeated Gainesville 21-4.  Raiders senior Lance Nelson led the way with six goals while seniors Spencer Bonfiglio and Luke Lower added four goals apiece.  Santa Fe, which improved to 3-2, plays at Ocala Forest on Wednesday night at 7:30. And in girls lacrosse, Ponte Vedra defeated visiting Buchholz 18-12.  The Lady Bobcats’ Ellie Griffin scored eight goals in the loss. Buchholz had pulled to within 10-9 in the second half but couldn’t get any closer. It was the first loss of the season for the Lady Bobcats, who host Ponte Vedra Nease tonight at 7:30.

Andrew Thomas, who led Trenton football to two Class 1A state titles in three years, is returning to the area as Union County High School’s new football coach.  Thomas recently resigned after two seasons at Ocala Trinity Catholic, and said the Union County offer was the reason he stepped down.   In his two years at Trinity Catholic, the Celtics went 13-7, going 8-4 in 2019 and losing at Pensacola Catholic in the 3A regional semifinals.
