It’s week three of the high school football season.

It marks the first meeting between the two schools in 10 years.

The visiting Wolves, who were guests on “The Prep Zone” sports show at Sonic Drive-In on Wednesday night, had just one win last year. However, the 12-2 win at home against First Academy (Leesburg) snapped a 25-game losing streak dating back to 2019.

James Langham, who enters his second season as head coach, is very optimistic about this season.

“My optimism this season is not from a place of over confidence or blind faith, instead it is from a realization of where we are at right now and what we are capable of doing this season,” he said. “The honest truth is 5-5 at a minimum is not a pipe dream and 7-3 is not out of the realm of possibility.”

Langham said his team has bought into the program and bought into the culture and philosophy they have within the program.

“We honestly believe we can hang with anyone offensively when we are locked in and firing on all cylinders,” Langham said. “Now is the time we rise up as one team, representing one town, with one singular dream of making history here at Saint Francis.”

With seven starters back on offense and seven starters returning on defense, the Wolves are raising the bar in 2023.

“These guys have worked their behinds off all summer, and honestly since the very end of last season to prepare their bodies to play at a high level this season,” Langham said. “The growth and development both on and off the field is now starting to pay off. Then you add in the new boys and we now have numbers that haven’t been seen on this roster since way before my time here. All that adds up to equal unlimited potential within this program.”

Trenton, which is aiming high this year despite a winless season in 2022, looks to move to 2-0 for the first time since winning the Class 1A state title in 2015.

The Tigers opened the season with a 28-0 win at Bell. Their game at Dixie County last week was postponed until Monday, Sept. 18, due to Hurricane Idalia.

Kickoff of the game is at 7:30 p.m. Coverage of the game will begin at 7:15 p.m. with Cam Parker (Play-by-play) and Matthew Rothmann (Color) on the call.
