It’s another big week of sports coverage on Mainstreet Daily News and 106.9 FM “I am Country.”

Tonight from 6-7 p.m., join me from Sonic Drive-In on 39th Avenue in Gainesville for “The Prep Zone” sports show. My guests for this episode include Newberry volleyball coach Hank Rone and members of the Panthers volleyball team.

Newberry, which is 10-6 this season, is currently ranked sixth in Class 3A-Region 2 in the latest FHSAA volleyball rankings. You can listen to the show online ‘live’ and ‘archived’ at Mainstreet Daily News and ThePrepZone.com.

On Thursday night, tune in to the Jacksonville Jaguars Coaches Show on 106.9 FM “I am Country,” followed by this Sunday’s game at home against the Houston Texans. The pregame show begins at noon, followed by the kickoff at 1 p.m.

We have a pair of high school football broadcasts on Friday.

Gainesville High heads to Ocala to face Forest (Ocala). The host Wildcats are led by first-year coach and alum John Brantley, who was previously the head coach at Trinity Catholic (Ocala).

GHS (2-2) has yet to play a home game. Last week, the Hurricanes couldn’t overcome a 28-0 deficit in the opening quarter in a 42-0 loss at Lecanto in the Class 4A-District 5 opener.

The Hurricanes, who have wins at Aubrey Rogers (Naples), 36-2, and Crystal River, 20-7, along with a 42-21 loss at Davenport, have won three in a row in the series and six of the last seven.

The visiting Wildcats (2-1) have wins vs. North Marion (Citra), 35-0, and at Horizon (Winter Garden), 34-25, along with a 16-10 loss at Trinity Catholic.

Join Mainstreet Daily News Sports Director Mike Ridaught (Play-by-play) and former Gator football player Hank Rone (Color) for this Alachua County vs. Marion County showdown.

You can listen to the game on 106.9 FM “I am Country” with audio online at IamCountryGainesville.com beginning at 6:30 p.m. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

The Buchholz football team returns home after a 30-13 win at Manatee (Bradenton).

Senior Chris Johnson carried the ball 15 times for 92 yards and two touchdowns, and sophomore quarterback Andrew Whittemore had eight carries for 54 yards as the Bobcats (3-1) avenged a 34-27 loss to Manatee last year in Alachua County.

The Bobcats, who are ranked fourth in Class 6A in the latest USA Today Florida Network poll, will get another shot at redemption this Friday at Citizens Field against Richmond Hill (GA). The visiting Wildcats, who are 4-0, won last year’s meeting, 35-28, in Georgia.

The game will be broadcast online at Mainstreet Daily News (audio only). Join Cam Parker (Play-by-play) and Alex Washburn (Color) for all the action, beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
