National Center for Life and Liberty offers COVID-19 response plan for churches

Attorney David Gibbs, President and general counsel of the National Center for Life and Liberty, wants churches, small businesses and nonprofits to take advantage of the CARES Act.

The bill, passed by the House and signed by the President, provides significant funding to small businesses across the country.

“As this law is now going into effect, we wanted to provide some additional information for your church, ministry, or nonprofit. Below are some important points for you to understand concerning the CARES Act,” Gibbs offered and provided links to follow as people explore their options.

According to Gibbs, “Many churches, nonprofits, and charities are facing unprecedented financial challenges. Religious schools and charities are seeing drastic changes in funding. The Small Business Administration (SBA) is providing several funding opportunities for churches and ministries during this time. Some states are also providing state economic disaster funds. These funds are aimed at ensuring the stabilization of the many small businesses which include churches and ministries throughout the country.”

The act allows businesses to apply for a government loan (an possibly have that loan forgiven) if they in business as of March 2020, have less than 500 employees.

Gibbs’ advice: “Contact your bank first,” he said. “Then look for other banks that specialize in small businesses.”

Next: Reach out to the SBA disaster relief fund, he advises and “If you are running into difficulty, reach out to the NCLL

“Our legal team, staff  are working 24-7 during this crisis to make sure that your church, your ministry, your organization, your business is not just able to survive but thrive,” Gibbs said.

“These are unprecedented times in our nation. Make sure these CARES ACT opportunities are known to you.”

Gibbs also offers a COVID-19 Response Plan designed specifically for churches.
