Friday night’s spring football game at Trenton was delayed almost an hour because of no officials.

In fact, the game started with just two officials, before finishing with four.

But that didn’t matter. Trenton got a chance to play spring football again after COVID-19 canceled spring ball in 2020.

“I’m tickled to death,” said Trenton coach Bill Wiles. “I’m happy. We love each other and we just wanted to come play and have fun.”

Interlachen scored on a 70-yard touchdown off a deflected pass on the first play of the game to take a 6-0 lead.

However, the Trenton ground game proved to be the difference as the Tigers finished the half with 22 unanswered points and defeated the visiting Rams, 38-18.

Jaron Riley scored two touchdowns, and quarterback Tyler Perry added a 65-yard scoring run in the first half as Trenton built a 28-12 lead at the break.

“We played as a team for the first time in a while, so it feels good to win again,” Riley said. “It was about time we get Trenton football back. We need to make sure everybody stays healthy.”

Tristan Sloan had a long run to set up the Tigers’ first touchdown run by Zach Braswell.

K.J. Williams had a 45-yard run in the first half to help keep the Rams’ defense off balance.

“I feel like we did great,” Williams said. “We put in a lot of work, a lot of effort, and I’m just happy that we won.”

Sloan also had a 20-yard touchdown run with 8:41 to play in the third quarter, capping a 70-yard scoring drive to start the second half, to give Trenton a 36-12 lead.

It was a final dress rehearsal before the fall season starts.

“I think if they realize what they can be, which I think this helps, we go into the summer and have a good summer, we can win some games this year," Wiles said.
