Buchholz 24, Fleming Island 21
The Buchholz Bobcats defeated visiting Fleming Island (Orange Park), 24-21, on homecoming to win its fourth straight game. The Bobcats built a 21-0 lead thanks to 25-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Creed Whittemore to Adrian Sermons, a 10-yard scoring run by Quan Smith, and a 9-yard touchdown run by Jacarree Kelly.
The Golden Eagles tied the game at 21-21 two and a half minutes into the fourth quarter, but Buchholz’s Hunter Smith won the game on a 24-yard field goal with 3:18 to play. Buchholz will travel to Creekside (St. Johns) this Friday night.
Hawthorne 30, Union County 20
The Hawthorne Hornets scored two first quarter touchdowns and then held off a fourth quarter rally to defeat the Union County Tigers 30-20 in week eight high school football action Friday night.
The Hornets took a 22-7 halftime lead, and then withstood a two touchdown rally by the Tigers in the fourth quarter.
The victory gives Hawthorne a 5-1 record on the season. They play at Chiefland this Friday. Union County falls to 4-3.
Trenton 40, Williston 38
On Friday night, the Trenton football team rallied to win for the second time this season on the final play of the game. Senior Preston Blankenship kicked a 37-yard field goal as time expired to give the Tigers a 40-38 win at Williston.
The Red Devils had just scored a touchdown with 1:18 to play in the game on a 3-yard run by Jacurtis Pitts to make it 37-36 Trenton. Williston decided to go for two and Marland Williams ran it in for a 2-point conversion and a 38-37 lead.
Following the kick, and with just 69 seconds left, Trenton quarterback Tyler Perry connected with Kyle Pollock for eight yards on fourth down to keep the game alive. Then, Tristan Sloan rushed up the middle for 23 yards to put the Tigers into Red Devils’ territory. Perry threw to Sloan, who made the catch and got down to the Williston 20. With 2.8 seconds remaining, Blankenship entered and converted his second game-winning kick of the season. He also had the game-winner in overtime in Week one against P.K. Yonge.
Williston actually led early, taking a 14-8 lead into the locker room. However, Trenton rallied in the second half. Caleb Morgan scored on a goal line run to give the Tigers a 15-14 lead in the third quarter. The Tigers would take a 16-point lead at 30-14 on a 11-yard touchdown run by Jacob Guthrie and 14-yard run by Sloan following an interception.
Trenton, which evened its record at 4-4, will travel to Branford this Friday, while Williston, which dropped to 2-6, is off this week and will travel to Chiefland on Friday, Nov. 6.
Munroe Day 56, Bronson 0
The Monroe Day Bobcats showed why they are undefeated with five first quarter touchdowns en route to a 56-0 rout of the Bronson Eagles.
The loss drops Bronson to 5-3 on the season. The look to bounce back this Friday against Bishop Snyder of Jacksonville at home. Munroe Day is 7-0.
Suwannee 14, Ponte Vedra 0
The Suwannee Bulldogs scored touchdowns in the second and third quarters, and its defense pitched a shutout against the #14 ranked Ponte Vedra Sharks to win 14-0. It was the second straight shutout of a powerhouse program, and the third straight shutout for Suwannee. Last week the Bulldogs surprised previously unbeaten Wakulla 21-0.
With the impressive win, Suwannee improved to 6-2 on the season. They play at Baker County, who is ranked #9 in the Prep Zone Top 20 Power Poll, in two weeks.
Ponte Vedra fell to 5-2.
Wildwood 14, Chiefland 10
Chiefland carried a 10-0 lead into the fourth quarter against unbeaten Wildwood, only to see the Wildcats claw their way back for a 14-10 win. The Indians will host Union County this Friday night at 7 p.m.
PK Yonge 32, Fort White 0
The PK Yonge Blue Wave took a modest 6-0 halftime lead, but blew the game wide open in the second half with 26 points, while its defense shut down the Ft. White Indians, en route to a 32-0 win.
Fort White remains winless at 0-5 and is at home against Newberry this Friday. PK Yonge improves to 3-5 and is at home against Dixie County on Friday..
Orange Park 28, Eastside 14
The Eastside Rams allowed 28 first half points, and their rally fell short as they lost to the Orange Park Raiders 28-14.
Eastside remains winless at 0-6, and plays Santa Fe this Friday at home.
Oak Hall 42, Shorecrest 8
The Oak Hall Eagles have quietly rampaged their opponents and remained unbeaten in 2020. Last night in St. Petersburg, they dismantled the Shorecrest Prep Chargers 42-8.
The Eagles remain unbeaten at 7-0 this season. Shorecrest falls to 2-4.
Trinity Christian 34, St. Francis 12
The Trinity Christian Eagles kept the St. Francis Wolves winless with a 34-12 victory in Deltona.
The win gives Trinity a 4-3 record, while St. Francis remains winless at 0-8.
The Wolves will try for their first win when they return home to take on take on Rocky Bayou Christian of Niceville this Friday.
Wakulla 30, Columbia 29
The Columbia Tigers continued their frustrating season with a heartbreaking loss to the Wakulla War Eagles 30-29. After trailing 10-0 at halftime, the Eagles rallied to lead 29-24 with just over a minute to play when Wakulla scored the decisive touchdown.
The loss drops Columbia to 0-5 on the season. They will try for their first win Friday night at home against home against North Miami Beach. Wakulla improves its record to 5-1.
Lafayette 35, Seven Rivers 21
After enduring a 38-14 loss to the The Maclay Marauders of Tallahassee the Lafayette Hornets bounced back in week eight of high school football action Friday night with a 35-21 win over Seven Rivers.
The five touchdown effort by the Hornets was too much for Seven Rivers, who falls to 3-4 on the season.
Lafayette, with the win, is heading towards a winning season with a 4-3 record. This week, they take on the Bell Bulldogs.
Bradford 36, Palatka 6
The Bradford Tornadoes scored 20 first half points and sailed past the winless Palatka Panthers 36-6 in week eight of high school football action Friday night.
The win evens the Tornadoes record on the season to 4-4. They play at home against Trenton this week. Palatka remains winless at 0-8.
Branford 12, Interlachen 7
The Branford Buccaneers scored 12 first half points, while its defense shut down the Interlachen Rams en route to a 12-7 victory in week eight of high school football action Friday night.
The Buccaneer defense allowed only one touchdown, leading the way for the victory.
With the win, Branford improves is 5-1. This Friday, they play at home against Trenton.
Interlachen drops to 4-3.
Aucilla Christian 30, Bell 19
The Aucilla Christian Warriors scored 16 first half points and cruised past the Bell Bulldogs 30-19 in week eight action of high school football Friday night.
The Bulldogs trailed 8-7 after the first quarter, but never got closer.
With the loss, Bell drops to 2-5 on the season. This week they play Lafayette at home. Aucilla Christian improves to 5-2.
Keystone Heights 35, Taylor 9
The Keystone Heights Indians kept its season rolling with a one-sided victory over the Taylor Wildcats 35-9. It was the fifth straight win for the Indians, who improve to 5-1 on the season.
Taylor falls to 3-3.
The Wildcats took the early lead with a first quarter field goal, but two touchdowns by the Indians gave them a 14-3 halftime lead. A third touchdown in the third quarter put the game out of reach.
Keystone Heights plays at Interlachen this week.
