Winkel on his way to Germany after three-sport career at Gainesville High School

Today’s senior spotlight is on Job Winkel of Gainesville High School.

Winkel was on the varsity swim team, the water polo team, and the club sailing team at GHS. This past spring, he had 14 goals and 12 steals for the Hurricanes’ water polo team, which finished 9-3 and went undefeated in district play.

Winkel, who was a three-year starter, also led the team in draw exclusions.  The 2020 Hurricanes were named Region 1 and District 2 champions.

Winkel’s favorite high school sports moment was winning the swimming district championship this past fall. His favorite water polo moment was during the Ian Supra Tournament when GHS lost to Orlando Dr. Phillips by just one point.

Winkel, who was a member of the 2019 district championship swimming team, competed in the national math competition and finished ninth. He has been on the A/B honor roll all four years at GHS and he has been dual enrolled at the University of Florida.

Winkel is on a club sailing team and placed fourth in the sailing Junior Olympics, two different times.
