Thunderstorms may dump up to 4 inches through Sunday

The National Weather Service (NWS) is projecting a 40% chance of a weak tropical or subtropical system that will dump up to 4 inches of rainfall through Sunday.

According to the NWS forecast released Wednesday morning, thunderstorms are expected with the total rainfall up to 4 inches, with an elevated flood risk for Northeast Florida and North Central Florida in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

In the Gainesville area on Wednesday evening, showers are expected before 10 p.m. with up to one inch of rainfall possible.

On Thursday, there’s an 80% chance of rainfall totaling a quarter to half an inch, and on Friday, showers and thunderstorms are expected sporadically from 11 a.m. through 11 p.m.

Saturday will see a 60% chance of precipitation, and on Sunday, the forecast calls for a 60% to 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
