Keep Alachua County Beautiful will hold its annual tire roundup event at Squirrel Ridge Park in Gainesville on Saturday, Sept. 27.
The free event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at 1603 SW Williston Rd.
The program provides residents with a free and convenient way to dispose of unwanted tires and will help prevent illegal dumping and improper storage. By participating, community members can play an active role in reducing environmental risks, such as mosquito breeding and harmful toxins leaching into the soil.
Nearly 750 tons of tires are annually collected at the event and will be hauled off-site from Alachua County to be recycled each year. The tires can be made into rubber mulch and asphalt additives.
Alachua County residents are permitted to bring up to four passenger car, pickup truck or van tires to the roundup event at no charge. Tire rims are not accepted, and business use is not permitted.
