The Gainesville Empowerment Zone Family Learning Center (GEZFLC) will host its “Growing Greatness Festival” on Saturday afternoon.
The free event will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. at 1250 N.E. 18th Ave, Bldg. 11, in Gainesville on the campus of Metcalfe Elementary School.
The GEZFLC, now entering its third academic year, was created by Gainesville for All, Inc., to help close the county’s academic achievement gap by focusing on low-income families with children ages 6 weeks to 4 years old.
“Our festival represents another effort on our part to serve struggling families in this community,” said Elizebeth Woods, GEZFLC executive director, in a press release. “We’re more than a childcare center. We provide services for the entire family. After all, it’s no secret that children from troubled families are more likely to perform poorly in the classroom. We’re changing that narrative.”
