The third annual Flying Pig Parade will take off at Bo Diddley Plaza in Gainesville on Saturday afternoon.
This event will start at 2 p.m. at 101 East University Ave. It marches south on SE 1 Street to The Hippodrome Theater and takes two left turns before returning to the Plaza.
The Bo Diddley Birthday Bash Concert will immediately follow the parade at 3 p.m. in the plaza. The popular band, Show Time, will entertain and birthday cake will be served. The parade and concert are free.
The colorful procession celebrates everything that’s wild and wonderful about living in North Florida. Gainesville’s Joe Courter will serve as grand marshal. Courter has published his Gainesville Iguana newspaper for 40 years. Past grand marshal honorees include activists Vivian Filer, Paul Ortiz and Sheila Payne.
