- Jason Hawks lay bleeding for hours and Laura Hawks attempted to hide and bury his body without reporting the death to authorities.
A Williston woman was arrested on Friday after she shot and killed her ex-husband.
According to a Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) release sent Monday, the Levy County 911 Center received a call on Friday from a juvenile who said a man was dead inside a home in Williston.
When deputies arrived, they found Jason Hawks, 48, dead from multiple gunshots.
LCSO detectives determined Laura Hawks, 55, of Williston, resided in the home with Jason Hawks, her ex-husband. During the investigation, detectives learned of the history of domestic violence between Laura and Jason.
Laura told detectives that she armed herself with a firearm the prior day that allegedly belonged to Jason. When Jason entered their shared bedroom, Laura said she shot him multiple times.
The investigation found that Jason did not immediately die from his wounds and that he lay bleeding in the residence for several hours. Laura did not call for emergency responders to render air or report the shooting and instead covered Jason’s remains with clothing to hide him. She told detectives that she intended to bury Jason in the backyard to avoid arrest.
Laura was arrested for premeditated murder, tampering with evidence and failure to report the death. She is being held in the Levy County Detention Center with no bond.
