Be surrounded by scenes from under the sea while you listen to professional instrumental musicians joined by Dance Alive National Ballet, a festival chorus, and the Gainesville Youth Chorus. Be transfixed by the beauty of Saint-Saens Carnival of the Animals, the hope of the Wellerman Sea Shanty, and the drama of music from movies like Jaws, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Little Mermaid.
DANB will perform a work created by Artistic Director Kim Tuttle featuring the men of DANB in Pirates of the Caribbean while DANB Principal Rosemary Deiorio will perform Dying Swan. The Company will also perform Judy Skinner’s Oceana to music composed by Stella Sung with video by Annie Crawley.
At 6:45 p.m., UF string bass professor Dr. Alexander Pershounin will improvise to the sounds of the sea. Equally versatile in classical, jazz, commercial, and world music settings, he has been featured as a performer, arranger, and composer on such internationally recognized music events as Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, Pori Jazz Festival in Finland, Europe’s Jazz Contest in Belgium, and New Orleans Jazz Fest, among others.
