The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single vehicle crash this afternoon at approximately 4:08 pm in Columbia County.
According to the FHP incident report, a Honda SUV, driven by a 78-year-old female from Wellborn, was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 in the left lane near the 312-mile marker in Columbia County.
For reasons unknown at this time, the SUV traveled off of the south shoulder into the center median where it struck several small trees. The driver, and the passenger, an 85-year-old man from White Springs, were taken to area hospitals. The passenger in the SUV was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver’s injuries were listed as serious on the report.
The crash is under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers in the incident.
