A 19-year-old University of Florida student was seriously injured Monday morning after being hit by a box truck on the UF campus on University Avenue.
According to a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) release, officers responded to the area of University Avenue and Buckman Drive in reference to a box truck hitting a pedestrian.
The collision occurred around 100 yards south of University Avenue on Buckman Drive on the UF campus.
The preliminary investigation indicated the box truck was traveling southbound on Buckman Drive when the UF student, walking eastbound, entered the road near a marked crosswalk, where they were struck by the truck.
The student was transported to a local hospital under a trauma alert with life-threatening injuries.
The GPD is conducting a traffic homicide investigation into the details of the collision.
