Volunteers will descend on 30 miles of shoreline to clean both the Sante Fe and Ichetucknee rivers on Sunday, March 8, for the Lower Santa Fe River Clean Up 2026.
The six-hour trash-collecting event starts at 9 a.m. on the shoreline the volunteer selects at registration. Click here to register and to review the information and pick your team and your mile markers to work from to haul trash out of the river. Details of each site’s requirements (like park fees) are included.
The timing of this event takes advantage of low river levels and clear water that makes it easier to reach trash in the river. According to organizers, this is the first recent attempt to “map” the shoreline for conservation efforts.
Following the trash collection, Rum 138’s seasonal Sunday Funday turns into a Clean Up After Party at Rum 138 (2070 SW County Road 138, Fort White), which starts at 2 p.m.
Volunteers and the general public are encouraged to attend to see how successful the trash haul is (weigh-ins will be held at Rum 138) while enjoying live music, food, drink, and springs and river-focused art and merchandise available. Prizes for the best “catch” will also be given.
