Teenager remains in ICU after being hit by car in attempted stunt

A 17-year-old male remains in intensive care following a stunt on Tuesday, where he reportedly attempted to jump over a moving vehicle.

According to a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) release, GPD officers responded to the 2100 block of SW 14th Street after 6:15 p.m., where they found the teenager suffering from a serious head injury. He was transported to a local hospital.

GPD spokesperson Art Forgey said the teenager is still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as of Thursday morning.

“They were trying a stunt where the car drove at him at 45 mph and he was going to jump it,” Forgey told Mainstreet.

The GPD release stated, “numerous people were present and watching, and several individuals recorded the incident as it occurred.”
