An Alachua County man has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual battery following an investigation involving two juvenile victims.
According to an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) release, Detective T. Sapundjieff of the ACSO Criminal Investigations Division Special Victims Unit was assigned the case on Tuesday, July 28, after allegations of sexual abuse involving 37-year-old Tony Perryman and two juvenile victims were reported to law enforcement.
According to investigators, Perryman lived near the children and had access to provide care for them. Earlier that day, both victims disclosed to a relative that Perryman had sexually abused them on multiple occasions. The relative immediately contacted law enforcement.
The victims were subsequently referred to the Child Protection Team for forensic and medical interviews as part of the ongoing investigation.
Detectives said the investigation determined Perryman sexually and physically abused both victims over multiple years. According to investigators, the victims reported they were uncomfortable with the inappropriate contact.
Later Tuesday, detectives located Perryman outside his place of employment and took him into custody without incident. He was transported to the Alachua County Jail.
Perryman has been charged with 12 counts of sexual battery by a custodian upon a victim between the ages of 12 and 18.
In a statement, the ACSO commended the victims for coming forward.
“We commend the victims for their courage in coming forward. We recognize that disclosing abuse can be incredibly difficult, and their willingness to speak up has allowed law enforcement to hold Perryman accountable,” the release stated.
The investigation remains active. Authorities said no additional details are being released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation and the privacy of the victims.
