The Alachua County Environmental Protection Department will host a free workshop on Aug. 29 to help residents save money, conserve natural resources and improve their homes and landscapes.
The “Ways to Save, Conserve, and Beautify” workshop will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the main meeting room at the Hawthorne Branch Library (6640 SE 221st St., Hawthorne). The workshop is free and open to the public, but registration is required because space is limited.
Hosted in partnership with the Community Weatherization Coalition, the workshop will feature brief presentations covering energy efficiency, water conservation, and tree and landscape planning, planting and maintenance.
Alachua County staff also will provide information about new state requirements for septic systems. Participants will learn practical strategies they can use at home while discovering county programs and resources designed to support household savings and environmental stewardship.

Alachua County reminds residents that it is still experiencing a severe drought and urges residents to adhere to irrigation restrictions.
