Jose Manuel Barron, 31, of Fort White, Florida, has been indicted in federal court on a charge of conspiracy to transfer firearms to a nonresident in Mexico.
According to a Northern District of Florida U.S. Attorney’s Office press release sent on Wednesday, Barron appeared for his arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Midori Lowry in Gainesville. His jury trial is scheduled for Sept. 2 before Chief U.S. District Judge Allen Winsor in Gainesville.
If convicted, Barron faces a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Hapner.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative of the U.S. Department of Justice that seeks to marshal federal resources to combat illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from perpetrators of violent crime.
