Fourth person dies following US 90 crash in Lake City

The Lake City Police Department (LCPD) released updated information on Wednesday following a fatal traffic crash on U.S. Highway 90 on Aug. 15 that has now claimed the lives of four people.

According to the LCPD release, the crash occurred at approximately 8:51 p.m. at the intersection of West U.S. Highway 90 and NW Centurion Court. Officers arrived to find a black Ford F-150 and a blue Chrysler minivan with extensive damage. LCPD officers, Lake City firefighters and emergency medical personnel immediately began providing lifesaving care.

  • Raymond Charles Conway Jr., 68, of Lake City, who died Aug. 25 from injuries sustained in the crash.
  • Bonnie Jean Welker, 44, of Lake City, who died at the scene.
  • Mae Waters, 15, of Lake City, who died Aug. 19 from injuries sustained in the crash.
  • Mya Raulerson, 16, of Lake City, who died at the scene.

According to the preliminary investigation, the Ford F-150 was traveling west on U.S. Highway 90 when it struck the passenger side of the Chrysler minivan, which was turning at the intersection. Witnesses reported that the Ford was traveling at a high rate of speed before the collision.

The driver of the Ford left the scene before officers arrived. Investigators identified the alleged driver as Jaron Carr and located him shortly thereafter at the Gateway Inn. Carr was detained and transported to the Lake City Police Department.

Carr was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death and driving while his license was suspended or revoked. He also held active warrants from Missouri and Brevard County, Florida.

The LCPD Traffic Unit continues to investigate the crash. Additional charges remain possible pending the outcome of the investigation.
