Time magazine ranks UF No. 4 among public universities

TIME magazine selected the University of Florida at No. 4 among public universities in its inaugural “America’s Best Colleges 2026-2027” rankings, placing UF among the nation’s top institutions for student outcomes, learning environment and student appeal.

According to a UF release, the ranking, released on Monday, was developed by TIME magazine in partnership with Statista and focuses on the value students receive from their college education, including outcomes after graduation and the overall student experience.

According to TIME, the ranking reflects growing interest among students in the return on investment of a college education as tuition costs rise and the job market becomes increasingly competitive. The ranking places particular emphasis on student outcomes and career preparation.

“This ranking confirms what our students experience every day: a world-class learning environment, faculty and programs that prepare them to succeed after graduation, and a university that the best and brightest actively seek out,” said Mori Hosseini, UF Board of Trustees chair, in the release. “The University of Florida stands alongside the nation’s most elite institutions because of the outcomes we deliver for our students.”

The University of Michigan ranked No. 1 among public universities, followed by the University of Virginia at No. 2 and the University of California, Berkeley, at No. 3.

“University of Florida students, faculty and staff should be proud of this ranking,” said UF President Stuart Bell in the release. “It’s a reflection of the hard work they all put in every day to make this one of the country’s leading universities, and people are taking notice.”

In July, UF was ranked No. 1 among the nation’s largest-enrollment public universities for artificial intelligence readiness, highlighting the university’s efforts to integrate AI across education, research and student experiences.
