A 47-year-old Old Town man died on Thursday night when his pickup truck left County Road 349 in Dixie County and struck a tree.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the man was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck southbound on CR 349 south of SE 791st Street west of Chiefland at 9:25 p.m. when the vehicle left the roadway and traveled onto the southbound shoulder on the west side of the road. The driver attempted to overcorrect and the truck traveled back onto the road but continued across both lanes and entered the eastbound shoulder, where it went into a wood line and struck a tree.

Emergency responders transported the man to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where he was pronounced dead. According to the FHP, he was not wearing a seat belt.
