With Tropical-storm conditions beginning on Friday, and possible hurricane conditions into Friday night as a result of Tropical Storm Isaias, area schools are being proactive by moving their games up a day.
Tropical Storm Isaias, which is forecast to become the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season, is expected to bring high winds, flooding and isolated tornadoes to North Florida.
With the threat of the state’s first Hurricane of 2026 nearing, Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a State of Emergency for 25 Florida counties, including four counties in the Mainstreet coverage area (Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, and Suwannee).
Thursday night will be a big night for high school football in the area. So far, half a dozen games have been moved up due to Tropical Storm Isaias.
Madison County shifted to Thursday night due to potential weather concerns. The Cowboys (3-4), who made the decision on Tuesday, will host Fort White (5-1) at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Suwannee (Live Oak) moved its home game against Baker County (Glen St. Mary) to Thursday. Kickoff between the Bulldogs (6-1) and the Wildcats (4-2) is at 7 p.m.
Williston was originally scheduled to host University Christian (Jacksonville) on Friday. However, now the Red Devils (2-4) will play the Christians (5-2) on the road at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Other games moved up to Thursday include Buchholz at Matanzas (Palm Coast) and Union County (Lake Butler) at Fernandina Beach at 7 p.m., and Dixie County (Cross City) at Keystone Heights at 7:30 p.m.
