A driver bailed out of his vehicle along NE 77th Street in Waldo on Tuesday afternoon after being spotted driving into oncoming traffic.
According to Art Forgey, spokesman for the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ASO), an ASO detective was traveling north on the 10000 block of CR 225 when he spotted a vehicle driving into oncoming traffic and almost striking his vehicle.
The detective turned around on the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, according to reports.
The suspect fled a short distance and bailed out of the vehicle into the woods along NE 77th Avenue.
Multiple ASO patrol and K-9 units and the Air 2 helicopter responded to the area, established a perimeter and tried unsuccessfully to locate the subject. The investigation as to who was driving is ongoing as of Wednesday morning.
The vehicle was a black 2012 Chevy Sonic four-door. No suspect description available.
