A 12-year-old girl died Thursday night when shots were fired into a Lake City home.
According to a Lake City Police Department (LCPD) release, officers responded to NW Long Street at 9:06 p.m. to the report of a person shot.
When they arrived, officers found the girl who had been on a couch suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency responders worked on the victim, but she succumbed to her injuries.
The crime scene was secured with help from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and the scene is being processed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to LCPD at 386-752-4343.
