The UF Orchestra will perform Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, known as the “Resurrection” Symphony, on Thursday at the Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

The concert will start at 7:30 p.m. at 3201 Hull Rd. In Gainesville.

Director Tiffany Lu will lead the UF Orchestra in what is considered by some to be one of the most emotional, important and profound symphonic works ever penned. According to a UF release, the length of the Second Symphony and size of the performing forces were unheard of when the symphony premiered in 1895.

The symphony consists of five movements, which include a chorale finale, utilizes a large symphony orchestra and employs soloists and a chorus.

The UF Orchestra will be joined by soloists Ann Toomey (soprano) and Maire Therese Carmack (mezzo-soprano), along with the UF Concert Choir and Gainesville Master Chorale, directed by Will Kesling.

Tickets are $20-$40 or $12 for students.
